What is medicine today?

Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov delivered a report to the deputies of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg. Here is an excerpt from the report:

“The covid pandemic forced us to completely rebuild the healthcare system. Analyzing these three most difficult years, we understand how much we have learned during this time. We learned how to combine the efforts of city, federal and private medical institutions – and build on the strengths of each of them. Learned in record time refurbish our hospitals.

Build transformer buildings. Today we have five of them. The sixth one will be introduced in 2024. We have over 1800 mobile reserve beds.

We learned how to treat patients at home, which required a major restructuring of the work of the primary link. This is also the instruction of the President – to deal with the primary link. 1 million 300 thousand residents received free home treatment in the amount of 3.5 billion rubles.

Today, our updated medicine has become more modern, more equipped and more efficient. 223 primary care institutions were transferred to the “thrifty” format.

Included 80 city polyclinics in a large-scale modernization program. Last year alone, in partnership with the federal center, 1,500 new medical devices and equipment were purchased.

Expanded the scope of work of polyclinics. Now preventive examinations can take place in the evenings and Saturdays. This shifts the focus from treatment to prevention.

In 2023, 3,700,000 Petersburgers will undergo medical examinations, twice as many as in 2018.

We continue the large-scale modernization of the ambulance service. For 3 years, 245 cars were purchased. In 2023, we plan to purchase 94 vehicles.

We completed the formation of Outpatient Cancer Care Centers. Today there are 18 of them – in each district. Raised the detection rate of oncology in the early stages to almost 60%.

Tens of thousands of Petersburgers have gained access to high-tech medical care. Last year alone, 130,000 operations of increased complexity were performed in St. Petersburg. For 4 years – growth in one and a half times.

Infant mortality – 3.4% – is the lowest in the history of the city. One third lower than the national one.”
