At the XI St. Petersburg Health Forum, which was held at the Expoforum business site from October 4 to 6, a discussion was held “A healthy family is the basis for the prosperity of the nation. Issues of sexual and reproductive health of people with disabilities and participants of the health education system.”
A preliminary study on this topic was presented by Dr. med. Science Oksana Vladimirova and specialists from the Stronger Yourself charity foundation.
The main reason for the study was the demographic situation in the Russian Federation, low birth rates, losses and disability of the male population, including those associated with the management of SVO. According to experts, if we want to change the situation and preserve the Russian ethnicity, it is necessary to consider the family sphere as a key concept of modern society.
The survey involved combat veterans and wounded soldiers who had been to different hospitals. As it turned out, for most of them, the consequences of their injuries do not interfere with building family relationships (20% do), but they generally complicate their lives. For example, 28% experience barriers at work, 23% at home, and 8% in communication. For 35%, their intimate life has changed for the worse. As for family relationships, 30% consider them happy, 25% have no family, and 20% have problems.
The men surveyed could be motivated to decide to have a child by:
3.The desire to start a family
4. Housing, material resources
5. Confidence in the future
6.Full rehabilitation after injury
7. Loyalty to a friend who is waiting at home.
Among other things, half of the respondents also noted a lack of information about the reproductive function of victims of injuries, 2/3 supported the idea of creating a network of Healthy Family centers.
During the event, experts raised issues of comprehensive rehabilitation of military personnel with post-traumatic stress disorders, their resocialization, transition to value-based healthcare, etc. Everyone clearly supported the thesis that disabled people are people with increased needs, and not with disabilities.
We must ensure that these needs are realized, and that more children, healthy in every sense, are born into the families of real heroes, strong Russian men!
